Private Jet to Rumson

Bruce Springsteen may have put the affluent Jersey Shore town of Rumson on the map, but wealthy people are keeping it there.

Located on the eastern end of a peninsula 50 miles south of Manhattan, the 5-square-mile Rumson is one of the richest towns in the United States. And, it’s getting richer, jumping into the Top 20 in 2019.

The population of Rumson is just over 7,000. The average annual household income is $304,000 and the median price of a home is $1.3 million.

It’s located in Monmouth County where Springsteen was born and raised. He is believed to have recently sold the houses he had owned for decades in Rumson, which lies on the peninsula between the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers.

Rumson, which is part of the New York Metropolitan Area, is just a few miles south of Highlands and the Atlantic Highlands, towns where residents can catch a ferry for a scenic 45-minute boat ride across New York Harbor to downtown and midtown Manhattan. The ferry makes 13 trips a day, to Wall Street and East 35th Street and back. It is also possible to catch a train into New York’s Penn Station in nearby Redbank.

Rumson is located on the shore but it doesn’t feel like a shore town. There are few seaside bungalows in the Barley Point area but most of the homes on the wide, tree-lined streets are sprawling mansions. There are 19th-century estates, mid-century colonials and ranches, and majestic Victorians and Queen Annes. Many are brick. Some have turrets. Most are fabulous.

Rumson’s Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club, established in 1877, is one of the oldest continually active tennis clubs in the United States. It has 16 lawn tennis courts, 15 clay courts, one hard court, and four platform tennis courts. Its members love tennis and are proud of their long history.

The Rumson Country Club is almost as old and steeped in tradition. Founded in 1908, the club has an 18-hole golf course, a 30-slip marina, swimming pool, and tennis courts. It is located on the Shrewsbury River.
