A half hour northeast of New York City on Long Island Sound sits the village of Larchmont, home to the historic Larchmont Race Week.
Larchmont was a popular resort community for wealthy New Yorkers when it was incorporated in 1891.
The race, which is older than the town itself, has been held since 1885 at the Larchmont Yacht Club. It was meant to be the American version of the United Kingdom’s highly successful Cowes Week.
The peaceful, seaside 1.1-square mile village of Larchmont, one of the richest towns in the United States, is overflowing with sailing enthusiasts for the event every July. But, the rest of the time, the village of some 6,000 people, many of whom live in 19th century multi-million-dollar Tudors, Victorians and Colonials, is a quiet respite 18 miles northeast of New York City. Most of its street names are those of trees. Larchmont itself is named after the Larch tree, a Scottish species of fast-growing trees, which were brought to the area in the early 1800s.
The family-friendly town takes great pride in its yacht clubs. Larchmont Yacht Club, which is home to the yachting regatta, is a place where members and guests can enjoy great views of Long Island Sound as they take out their boats, relax on its private beach or dine at one of its restaurants. Another stately, old, members-only yacht club, the Larchmont Shore Club, was built as a private residence in 1906 by the founder of the Southern Pacific Railroad. It was sold to founders of the Shore Club in 1925.
There are many parks and places to hike around the area. Not into nature? There are plenty of shops and restaurants near the downtown area and train station (the New Haven line of Metro-North Railroad). The train will take you to Grand Central Station in 35 minutes. It is a 35-minute car ride to LaGuardia and Westchester County airports.
The 1.1-square-mile village of Larchmont is located in the town of Mamaroneck in Westchester County between 1-95 and the Long Island Sound. Its most expensive neighborhood, Larchmont Manor, is south of Route 1. The median household income is $160,000 and the median home value is $1.2 million. It’s such a quiet city that noise ordinances spell out everything from barking dogs to gardening equipment.
Larchmont is or was home to many celebrities including Joan Rivers, Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, writers Jean and Walter Kerr and director Ang Lee.

Save on Your Larchmont Private Charter Flights
These days, over 30% of private jet charters are flying empty either to get into the position for the next booked flight or to return to their home base. These flights are known as empty legs and are one-way private jet flights without any payload or passengers on board.
It often happens that such an empty-leg flight has been paid for in part by the original flyer and is therefore offered at reduced rates. Empty legs offer price advantages with cost savings of up to 75% when compared to standard private jet travel rates.
At any given time, there may be more than 3,000 empty legs available worldwide. Once you let us know about your preferred routes and dates, we can match your air charter schedule with empty-leg charter flights available on the market.
Using multiple platforms, Paramount Business Jets offers the most comprehensive empty-leg flight search on the market.
