Tirana City Overview
Quaint and colorful, Tirana is the buzzing and beautiful capital of Albania, home to more than a quarter of Albania’s entire population. Visitors to the area are often struck by the fact that, despite the city’s size, it seems to exude a small-town charm. With a rich political and cultural heritage, there are a number of must-see historical sites in the city: from the Clock Tower at Skanderberg Square to Tirana Mosaic and The National Historic Museum.
The city’s past has been well preserved and is just waiting to be discovered by the inquiring visitor. At The Block or Ish-Blloku, you’ll discover the true heart of the city, some of it’s finest hotels, shops, cafes, and eateries…but you’ll also see the villa of the former dictator, Enver Hoxha, under whose reign this area was declared out of bounds until 1991. The best way to take the whole city is from the rotating Sky Club on the Block. The city boasts an almost effervescent atmosphere, with a truly vibrant arts scene and a dazzling nightlife.
If you are tired of the bustle, why not venture out to Pellumba Cave or the Grand Park? Alternatively, you could visit Bunkart for a unique art gallery experience. The attractions in and around Tirana are varied and fascinating and the soul that drives the city will have you wishing you’d booked a longer stay.
