Minsk City Overview
Minsk is the capital of Belarus located in the central region of the country, situated on the banks of Svisloch River. Minsk serves as the headquarters of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and a country's major business and government center. Minsk, one of the Europe's oldest cities, was mentioned in 1067 for the first time. Rebuild after World War II, during 1950s, Minsk features wide boulevards and squares, grandiose block-style buildings, beautiful architecture, large parks, nice restaurants and nightclubs. The most attractive part of Minsk is Troitskoye Predmestiye, the historic city center survived after the World War II, featuring 19th-century houses with colorful facades, shops and cafes. A small footbridge leads from the Old Town to the Island of Tears, a picturesque monument to the soldiers killed in the Afghanistan war.
