Chartering a private jet is the ultimate luxury experience. But where should you fly to? Perhaps a look at the most luxurious destinations of the rich and famous is a good place to start.
Private jet charter is certainly en vogue. In fact, 2018 saw a 10% hike in private jet flights. The flying experience is certainly a large part of this. From beating the crowds to unrivaled privacy, there’s nothing quite like boarding a private jet.
‘Private jets are the path of least resistance’ said Knight Frank partner Alasdair Pritchard, a billionaire advisor. ‘If you can afford it and then experience it, you wouldn’t go back.’
But flying private also gives you more flexibility on where you can escape to. With commercial flights becoming more affordable, destinations are filling up fast. Getaways which used to be elite are now available on budget packages. The holiday experience is changing before our eyes.
Flying private lets you experience exclusive holiday destinations
A holiday should be a temporary escape from reality. And, if you’re escaping, it makes good sense that you’d want to go to an island. Besides the sun, sea, and sand, there’s also a much higher degree of privacy.
But which island is the most popular for private jet users? We took a look at data provided by Knight Frank and WIngX and discovered the number one destination was…
The Bahamas!

With 15 top destinations to get through, that should keep you busy for some time.
But they’re the locations with the most private jet landings. What about the richest and most famous faces? Where do they holiday?
Good news – we did even more digging, and can give you the answer!
We examined research based on social media imprints and other detailed data to produce a list of the top 20 popular cities for celebs and the super-rich.
Here are the top 20 private jet destinations for celebrities and wealthy individuals:
- Los Angeles
- New York
- Miami
- London
- Paris
- Monaco
- Dubai
- St. Barts
- Las Vegas
- Amsterdam
- Mexico City
- Palm Desert
- Palm Beach
- Switzerland
- Chicago
- Punta Cana
- Cuba
- Tokyo
- Barcelona
- Milan
These cities are far removed from those with the most private jet landings. While the latter has a focus on islands and escaping the limelight, these are the opposite; loud, well-known areas with plenty of photo opportunities.
Part of this could be attributed to the ‘influencer’ culture on social media, where users want to be snapped in the coolest cities. Posing by a phone box in London, playing blackjack in Las Vegas, or catching some rays on a rooftop Infinity Pool in Dubai are all amazing opportunities within the Instagram culture.
It’s an interesting contrast. So, how do you know which route to follow?
To get a better idea behind the types of people that visit these destinations via private jet, we examined the research further. We were able to pinpoint the holiday locations for a number of household names.
St. Barts
This proved an extremely popular destination with a wide number of celebrities. Leonardo DiCaprio, Lana Del Rey, and socialite Paris Hilton have all visited the location. Sitting eighth on the list, this destination is favored thanks to postcard beaches, gorgeous weather, and a thriving yacht community. Plus, the limited population – less than 10,000 – adds plenty of privacy.
Hawaii
A longtime honeymoon favorite, Hawaii has been the preferred destination for some prestigious figures. Former USA president Barack Obama is the standout name, and Hilary Duff has also been spotted there. Full of natural wonder, it’s the perfect romantic getaway. Snorkel with turtles, tour the islands by helicopter or venture through the rainforests and waterfalls.
Mammoth Lakes
California has loads to offer, and world-class skiing is just the latest in a long list. Big names such as Emma Roberts and Nick Jonas have taken to the slopes at Mammoth Lakes. It’s accessible, too – you can fly in from Los Angeles in one hour! Crystal clear lakes, towering mountains, and gaping valleys have created the perfect environment for a winter getaway.
Costa Rica
Proving popular with a younger demographic, Costa Rica has become a hit with celebs like Lindsay Lohan, Selena Gomez, and Gisele Bündchen. Volcanoes, rainforests, and wildlife add something special to this Central American country. Although it’s considered a Third World Country, Costa Rica is widely viewed as a safe place for tourists. Plus, the added funds from tourism are a great way to help boost a struggling economy.
Reykjavík
Fancy something a little different for your next skiing trip? Head into Europe and check out Reykjavík, the capital of Iceland. Superstar Beyoncé has chosen this as her holiday destination before, and we feel she must have exquisite taste. If you visit in season, the Northern Lights are a must-see to tick off your bucket list. You’ll also enjoy interesting food, top-notch ski slopes, and culture aplenty.
