Whistling Straits

This world-famous course was home to the PGA Championships in 2004, 2010 and 2015. It also hosted the 2007 US Senior Open and will welcome the Ryder Cup in 2020. This is absolutely one of the best golf destinations in the US!

The list of accolades for Whistling Straits is extensive. As well as being the destination of choice for the many aforementioned and prestigious competitions, it’s also listed as one of the Top 100 Golf Resorts in Condé Nast Traveller magazine.

Few golf courses can rival the natural beauty of the area. The reason for this can be traced to the golf course’s routes when Herb Kohler began to turn his dream to a reality.

‘I wanted another kind of environment. Something on Lake Michigan, and something that was true to the origins of golf,’ said Mr. Kohler. Incidentally, the area he used had previously been an airport – making it somewhat of a spiritual home for private jet getaways.

But it wouldn’t look like an airport for long. Not after Kohler’s straightforward instruction to ‘make it look like Ireland’.

The result was simply astounding. If you want to play at one of the world’s top courses, Whistling Straits is an excellent choice.

If you’re a golfing fanatic, you’ll understand the importance of a true links golf course. The natural soil and terrain are perfect for a challenging round of golf. This specific type of ground drains well, which means there’s a good playing surface throughout the seasons.

Depending on who you ask – as the term ‘true links’ is open to interpretation – there are only around 160 courses like this one in existence.

Mike Keiser, a great lover of golf who has played all over the world, really did his research before creating Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. This included a visit to the birthplace of the game, where he soaked in the history and heritage of golf.

It began with one course, but you’ll now find no fewer than four under Mike’s guidance. As well as providing customers with incredible golfing opportunities, there’s also a big emphasis on sustainability here.

This includes the support and promotion of:

  • Healthy fish and species habitats
  • Working landscapes and seascapes
  • Sustainable tourism
  • Local entrepreneurs

If nature’s your thing, this could well be the course for you.

Royal County Down can be found amidst the Mountains of Mourne, by the Dundrum Bay shores. The location might sound like something from Middle Earth, and the beautiful scenery lives up to that imagery, too.

Approximately 30 miles south of Belfast, this gorgeous 18-hole course has an interesting bit of trivia in its arsenal. The ninth hole is one of the most photographed on the planet. That gives you an idea of just how picturesque things are at Royal County Down.

The number of major events hosted at Royal County Down is too long to list here but includes The Walker Cup, The Home Internationals, Irish Open Amateur Championship, and the Open Championship of Ireland. These events date back to 1893, which shows how much history the course holds.

If you haven’t heard of Big Island in Hawaii, you’ve been missing out. Known as the ‘Golf Capital of Hawaii’, this is the perfect area to escape and unwind with a few rounds. There are no fewer than 16 golf clubs in the region, giving you plenty of choices. Among them is the Volcano Golf & Country Club, a top-notch venue with exquisite facilities.

A 30-mile drive from Hilo, this scenic course has everything you need for a relaxing afternoon. It’s not your run-of-the-mill course, as it’s located on the rim on a volcanic crater – but don’t worry, it’s completely safe. What this does add, however, is the kind of backdrop that money can’t buy.

US News & World Report has placed Big Island as the Best Golf Destination bar none, and a close second in the ‘Best Luxury Destinations’ category. Plus, a 2001 issue of Golf Digest labeled it ‘the best-kept secret in Hawaii’.

Golfweek magazine listed the course in its top-20 golf resorts in California, and we couldn’t agree more. Aside from the mouth-watering 36-hole course, you’ll also notice there are luxury spas and hot springs. It’s even a dream wedding location for many people.

The home of golf. What more needs to be said?

This quintessentially British course in Scotland is one of the oldest in existence. As long-lasting as it is iconic, the Old Course is the most famed of the courses at St Andrews.

That being said, there are plenty of courses for those seeking a new challenge:

  • The Castle Course
  • New Course
  • Jubilee Course
  • Eden Course
  • Strathyrum Course
  • Balgove Course

The Old Course is, of course, the crown jewel here. Two-time Open Champion Jack Nicklaus said:

‘I fell in love with it the first day I played it. There's just no other golf course that is even remotely close’.

Although everything about this course is rustic and historic, it does actually utilize a live webcam. This lets you check out the latest conditions, or just take in the atmosphere from afar.

Certain parts of the Algarve may be known for a cheap and cheerful getaway, but this certainly isn’t the case for the Monte Rei Golf & Country Club.

One of two Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses, the Monte Rei Golf & Country Club opened its doors in 2007 and its been in the ascendency ever since.

The natural layout of the course makes for interesting strategical decisions, with water involved in 11 of the 18 holes. Widely ranked as Portugal’s finest golf course, the 1,000 acres here epitomize tranquillity.

As part of a private jet golfing escape, there are few finer choices in Europe.

The hotel is worth the trip in its own right, but The Broadmoor Golf Club is what helps push this high-end golf resorts into the must-visit territory.

Despite hosting many esteemed tournaments, the courses have been designed with all playing abilities in mind. That means tee markers of varying lengths to suit all handicaps. It’s no surprise that the design is so well-considered; legends including Donald Ross and Robert Trent Jones Sr. were directly involved in the design of these award-winning courses.

Choose between the East Course and the West Course. Both are brilliant, but the East Course is what the golf aficionados will target. It’s hosted a number of famous events including:

  • 1959 & 1967 US Amateur
  • 1995 & 2011 US Women’s Open
  • 2008 & 2018 Senior Open

Looking forward, The Broadmoor is also set to host the 2025 US Senior Open.

And, if you need more convincing, the East Course received a five-star rating from Golf Digest. It was one of just 12 North American and Caribbean golf courses that achieved such a score.

Scotland has already featured on this list, but such is its rich heritage of golf that we feel Muirfield deserves a spot as well.

Originally designed as a 16-hole course, two more have since been added to bring Muirfield in line with traditional golf courses. And, in 2010 and 2011, further changes were made by Martin Hawtree to ensure the course remained challenging. For example, the ninth hole is now a taxing par five. This is a course that has adapted over time. Hosting major championships at both amateur and professional levels, Muirfield is one of the most beautiful and exciting courses in Scotland. If you’re looking for a private jet golfing getaway, it’s certainly worth exploring Muirfield as an option.

Costa del Sol is ideally located for a golfing getaway. There are more than 70 courses in the region, giving it plenty of value for a repeat golf trip. But, if you only get one chance to visit, Mijas Golf is the venue we recommend.

Located off the Mediterranean Sea and just 20 minutes from Málaga Airport, the club attracts players from all around the world. There are two main courses here: Los Lagos and Los Olivos.

Mijas Golf now enjoys status as one of the most popular venues in Europe. The course was originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. before refurbishment in 2012, helping to maintain the club’s extremely high standard of courses.

Adding something a little different is the addition of ‘Bridge-Ball’, a project spearheaded by local company Tegobi & Sons, and developed by José González.

Can I carry my golf clubs on-board my private jet?

Now that you’ve assessed some of the best golf destinations via private jet, you’re probably eager to get going. However, before you make a booking, it’s important you choose the right aircraft.

You CAN bring your clubs on-board your private jet – but only if you choose the correct jet!

This largely depends on how many people are traveling in your party. For example, let’s say you’re flying for a golfing weekend with six people in total. That means six seats, six sets of clubs, and six overnight bags. This would require a midsize jet, which normally holds eight people and eight pieces of luggage.

Find out more about which jets are suitable to carry golf clubs.

Of course, you can also speak to a member of our team. They’ll be able to tell you exactly what kind of aircraft is suitable for your golf trip, taking into account how long the journey is and how many passengers will be on-board.

If you’d like to speak to a friendly member of our team to discuss your golfing holiday, give us a call on +1-877-727-2538. We’re available 24 hours a day and there’s no commitment.
