Twenty-five miles east of Cleveland is the wealthy suburb of Pepper Pike.
It is listed among the best places to live in Ohio and is one of the richest towns in the United States. It is home to Ursuline College and two prestigious golf clubs.
It is seven square miles of hilly and bucolic land in Cuyahoga County, east of Interstate 271, Cleveland’s bypass. In the late 1970s, Pepper Pike adopted an ordinance requiring all houses to be built on at least an acre and that any zoning changes require a voter referendum.
How did Pepper Pike get its name? No one knows for sure. It could be that there were pepper trees in the area or it could have been named after the Pepper family, early inhabitants. The city was founded by the Van Sweringen brothers, Oris Paxton and Mantis James. They had built Cleveland’s Terminal Tower and developed Shaker Heights before moving onto their dream of developing upscale and residential communities in the rolling hills east of Cleveland.
Pepper Pike has been successful in staying upscale. Some 92 percent of the population has some college with more than half of its 6,300 inhabitants having advanced degrees.
The median home value in Pepper Pike is $437,000 and the median household income is $169,000.
Pepper Pike is home to Ursuline College, a liberal arts college founded in 1871 and the oldest Catholic women’s college in Ohio. It has an enrollment of about 1,100.
There are two elite golf courses in Pepper Pike. The Pepper Pike Club is an ultra-exclusive country club where you must be invited to be a member. Most of its 200+ members are presidents or CEOs of companies.
Right next to it is another elite -- but more accessible -- course, The Country Club. It hosted the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur tournament. It calls itself a “family-friendly country club with a wide range of sport and social offerings.”
Both courses were designed by William Flynn, a famous golf architect who designed Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, N.Y.
Pepper Pike is also home to the Cleveland Racquet Club, the premiere tennis club in Northeast Ohio. Among the famous people who have lived in Pepper Pike are Vincent Marotta, co-creator of Mr. Coffee; and George Stephanopoulos, television news journalist.

Save on Your Pepper Pike Private Charter Flights
These days, over 30% of private jet charters are flying empty either to get into the position for the next booked flight or to return to their home base. These flights are known as empty legs and are one-way private jet flights without any payload or passengers on board.
It often happens that such an empty-leg flight has been paid for in part by the original flyer and is therefore offered at reduced rates. Empty legs offer price advantages with cost savings of up to 75% when compared to standard private jet travel rates.
At any given time, there may be more than 3,000 empty legs available worldwide. Once you let us know about your preferred routes and dates, we can match your air charter schedule with empty-leg charter flights available on the market.
Using multiple platforms, Paramount Business Jets offers the most comprehensive empty-leg flight search on the market.
