In 1977, the Cessna Corporation introduced the Citation II into the light business jet market. One thousand jets were sold in its first four years on the market and, after being in production for sixteen years, the Citation II became the best selling private jet to date for the Cessna Corporation. In 1978, the Citation II SP, the single pilot version of the Citation II model, was introduced to compete in the turbo-prop market.
