Private Jet to La Rochelle - Airports, Routes & Prices

In the 17th century, the early French settlers of Canada set sail in from La Rochelle, which sits on the Bay of Biscay in western France. The city is nicknamed La Ville Blanche (the White City) for its stunning limestone cliffs, and unmistakable when approached from the sea, with two huge towers defending its historic port. La Rochelle is also famous for hosting one of France’s biggest music festivals, ‘FrancoFolies’.

La Rochelle has a thriving ship-building trade and is home to three universities: the University of La Rochelle, La Rochelle Engineering School, and La Rochelle Business School. The city has a warm, temperate climate, and enjoys nine hours of sunshine a day, on average, in summer.

La Rochelle is the capital of Charente-Maritime département. It’s the fourth largest city in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and 96 miles from Bordeaux, the region’s capital and largest city.

Just off the coast lies Ré Island. Visitors from the mainland cross the toll bridge to see sights including Fort La Prée, the 10th-century Châteliers Abbey, the Lighthouse and Lighthouse Museum, and Saint-Martin-de-Ré Bell Tower. Boat trips run to nearby Aix Island, with its coves and fortifications, and Oléron Island with its woodlands and swamps.

La Rochelle’s old commercial harbor, Port des Minimes, is now one of France’s largest yachting harbors, and a great place for sailing lessons. The electro-solar sea bus provides a novel way to get there.

The Vieux-Port quarter is home to the impressive La Rochelle Aquarium and Rochelle’s three listed historic towers. The 15th-century Lantern Tower or Four Sergeants Tower served as a lighthouse and then a prison. Graffiti by prisoners (mainly Huguenots or corsairs) mark its walls. It’s connected by a curtain wall to the 14th-century Chain Tower, named after the large chain once strung between it and St. Nicholas Tower to close the port. The 14th-century St. Nicholas Tower, 138 feet tall, has crenelated walls offering great views over the city.

The Great Clock Gate (Porte de la Grosse Horloge) was a 15th-century addition to the city wall. Beyond it lies the charming Old Town, with its cobblestone streets, vaulted passages, half-timbered or arcaded houses, and Renaissance mansions.

La Rochelle’s other attractions include:

  • the ornate, historic City Hall, with its tower, gargoyles and columns
  • museums, including the Maritime Museum and the New World Museum, which explores relations between France and the Americas
  • the city’s many shops, markets, and restaurants. Local delicacies to try or buy include oysters, goats’ cheese or Pineau des Charentes, a fortified wine made from grape juice and Cognac.
  • Parc Animalier Charles-Edouard Beltrémieux, a large family-friendly green leisure park with a variety of animals to see and activities to try.

The coastal path is a favorite for walkers and cyclists, and the Vélodyssée cycle path passes through La Rochelle. Beach lovers can pick their favourite sandy beach: La Concurrence, Les Minimes or L'Houmeau. For the more active, kayaking, parachuting, golf and horse-riding are available.

Save on Your La Rochelle Private Charter Flights

These days, over 30% of private jet charters are flying empty either to get into the position for the next booked flight or to return to their home base. These flights are known as empty legs and are one-way private jet flights without any payload or passengers on board.

It often happens that such an empty-leg flight has been paid for in part by the original flyer and is therefore offered at reduced rates. Empty legs offer price advantages with cost savings of up to 75% when compared to standard private jet travel rates.

At any given time, there may be more than 3,000 empty legs available worldwide. Once you let us know about your preferred routes and dates, we can match your air charter schedule with empty-leg charter flights available on the market.

Using multiple platforms, Paramount Business Jets offers the most comprehensive empty-leg flight search on the market.
