Akron City Overview

Akron is a city in the state of Ohio and it is the largest metropolitan area of Summit County. Akron is situated next to the Erie Canal and Little Cuyahoga River, approximately 39 miles south of Cleveland and 23 miles north of Canton. The word "Akron" means "high" in Greek and is known as the highest point in Summit County. Founded by Simon Perkins in 1825, the city has its origin as a canal town.
