Capable of carrying small groups of people (generally 2-4), very light jets (VLJs) are specifically suited and designed for short haul to medium range flights. The wide variety of VLJs available encompass diverse performance characteristics and payloads although their maximum takeoff weight is under 10,000 pounds. While most VLJs are designed for small groups of people, some larger VLJs can accommodate more baggage than others and/or might include a semi-private lavatory. All VLJs are powered by jet engines (normally two) and feature pressurized passenger cabins for added comfort, safety and performance. In comparison to turbo-prop aircraft however, VLJs offer significant time savings by utilizing jet engines, yet offer the same cost savings due to reduced operational costs. VLJs are generally configured in a VIP format to cater to executives and to maximize passenger capacity.

As the basic entry-level jet in the charter industry, light jets are the most economical choice for short to mid-range trips. Light jets can travel faster and further than non-jet aircraft, getting you to your destination quicker, with average cruising speeds of 440 mph and an average nonstop range of about 1,500 miles. In addition light jets are still compact enough to operate out of airports not accessible by many major airlines. For added comfort, performance and safety most light jet aircraft have pressurized passenger cabins and often have a semi-private lavatory. Baggage capacity and luggage storage space is may be limited and light jets often cannot accommodate skis or large golf bags.

Midsize Jet aircraft provide the optimum blend of comfort, performance and economy for medium length flights. Midsize jets can travel faster and further than light jet aircraft, getting you to your destination quicker, with average cruising speeds of 500 mph and an average nonstop range of about 2,100 miles. In addition midsize jets are still compact enough to operate out of airports not accessible by many major airlines. Most midsize jet aircraft have external baggage storage and can accommodate a reasonable amount of baggage. Despite this, baggage capacity and luggage storage space may be limited on certain aircraft such as the Hawker line of jets, as they only have internal storage. This can pose problems for skis or other oversized items. However, unlike light jet aircraft, most midsize jets offer a full private lavatory.

Combining the low-cost advantages of piston aircraft with the performance and cabin comfort advantages of light jets, turboprop aircraft can travel further, faster and offer more comfort than piston aircraft. Powered by turbine propeller engines, turboprop aircraft can reach average cruising speeds of over 300 mph and have an average nonstop range of around 1,000 miles. Popular for short to mid-range flights, a turboprop can access runways that are often too short for jet aircraft making it one of the most cost-effective aircraft for short-service flights. For added comfort, performance and safety most turboprop aircraft have pressurized passenger cabins and often have a semi-private lavatory. Baggage capacity and luggage storage space is limited.

Designed for smaller groups of people (anywhere from 3-15), helicopters are specifically suited and designed for short haul to medium range flights. There are a wide variety of helicopters and rotorcraft available in a variety of different configurations. While most helicopters are designed for small groups of people, some larger helicopters can accommodate more baggage and passengers than others and/or might include a semi-private lavatory. Due to their high operation costs, helicopters are generally not used for long-range flights but rather for inner city flights or short routes. Most rotorcraft are generally configured in a VIP format to cater to executives and to maximize passenger capacity yet they can also be configured for medical and evac flights, passenger configurations and cargo operations.

Two of the most important factors in choosing an aircraft will be the number of passengers and how far you need to fly. The number of passengers allows us to determine what aircraft category would be most suited to your trip. In addition, how far you need to fly will indicate the required range, enabling us to further identify the type of aircraft required for your trip. If time is an issue, you may want to take into consideration the different cruising speeds for our wide variety of aircraft. While cruising speeds vary based on many aspects such as aircraft weight/load and weather conditions, a rough speed estimate for turboprop aircraft is about 200 mph/322kmh, while jet aircraft and private jets cruise more comfortably around 500 mph/805 kmh. When using these figures to estimate flight times it’s important to keep in mind that 10-15% of the time necessary will need to be added to achieve cruising speed and altitude.
The price of your aircraft charter is going to vary greatly depending on aircraft performance, size and passenger capacity. While turboprop aircraft may have more attractive price tags, it’s important to keep in mind that turboprop aircraft tend to cruise at slower speeds than jet aircraft. Furthermore turboprop aircraft are generally noisier than jet aircraft. On the other hand, jet aircraft have pressurized passenger cabins and fly at higher altitudes, greatly reducing noise levels and allowing for conversations at normal speaking volumes. In terms of amenities and services, Paramount Business Jets is able to provide you with a whole host of luxury services that cater to the unique needs of private aviation and we strive to deliver the highest quality catering and related services consistently for each and every flight. Therefore it is important to make sure that you notify our specialists of any of your requests so that we can select the right aircraft to support your needs. Whether you need gourmet meals, want to watch a DVD or enjoy a few hours of uninterrupted sleep, our Executive Jet Service Team will do everything to ensure that your flight with us is truly exceptional.Learn more about why PBJ is the right choice for you.
If you intend to travel with a lot of luggage and/or any special type of equipment you should disclose this to our specialists. Due to the fact that safety is our highest priority, our operators need to know about any luggage/equipment that is going to be loaded onto the aircraft as this allows them to compute the weight and balance for the aircraft. In addition, some items require special handling and/or cannot be loaded onto smaller aircraft. Snow skis, for example, cannot fit in the baggage compartment of many small aircraft and our operators are prohibited by federal regulations to lay items such as these in the aisle. Travelers with over sized golf bags may encounter similar problems on smaller aircraft. Furthermore it is advantageous to disclose whether there will be smokers or pets on board, or unusual items such as oxygen canisters or potentially flammable material as this will allow our operators to locate an aircraft that is suitable for your flight.
