If I put together a group of people will chartering a private jet be cheaper than flying commercial?

Private vs. Commercial

The simple answer is no. However, there are exceptions to the rule. There are a few private flights on occasions that can compete with the cost of flying commercial but these are rare cases. For example, when you compare the cost of chartering a jet from NY to London one way using an empty leg and all 14 seats are filled using a Large Jet, it can be more cost effective when compared to flying commercial in first class. Or certain operators offer very competitive pricing on specific short flights of 30 minutes, using a Very Light Jet aircraft can compete with commercial rates. Another rare occasion is when an operator is having a “Fire Sale”, which is essentially when an empty leg is not sold and the operator decided to drop the price of that specific flight by 80 or 90 percent, however, these flights are rare and announced a few hours before the aircraft has to depart. So in most cases the cost of flying privately will cost much more. You can get a quick quote online to compare the prices if you wish.

At Paramount Business Jets, we actually created the “private jet vs. commercial flight cost comparison calculator”. This program takes into consideration the Value Per-Man Hour (VPMH) as well as the time efficiency and productivity of a private jet flight versus flying commercial. In the end, it is all about the value of the passenger’s time. If a group of high earning executives charter a jet, it is likely that the overall cost of flying privately will be more cost effective because the executive’s time is also very expensive. So in general if you are looking for a cost effective option to fly then private jets is not for you regardless of how many friends you convince to fly with you, in the end flying privately will always cost more. And if anyone tells you different then it is not the norm. And this goes for hiring a private airliner with hundreds of passengers as well. We do not offer seats for sale since we believe that flying privately is about flying privately. However, there are certain companies that operate certain routes on a private jet much like the commercial airliners, where they sell seats to random passengers on the same jet but based on our experience those seats are also much more expensive than flying commercial as well.

The best thing to do is to get a quote online for the flight you have in mind to see if ball park you can afford the private charter. Also check the empty leg flights listings for discounted charters or call us at +1-877-727-2538.
