The testing involves running the Wi-Fi system at five times the FCC mandated wattage while operating all the aircraft systems including the autopilot ensuring the system doesn’t interfere with essential communication or navigation. Each specific aircraft make and model will be issued a STC (supplemental type certificate) after the installation and testing has been completed and is found to be satisfactory. The instillation of Wi-Fi units in charter aircraft is slowly becoming easier and eventually will become universal throughout the business jet industry.
